Dr Tries Razak is a global expert on coral reef conservation and restoration. She has worked for decades on coral reef research programmes across Indonesia, generating a prolific record of impactful research. She is currently a research fellow at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, IPB University, Indonesia. She received her PhD from the University of Queensland, Australia; MSc from Leiden University, Netherlands, and BSc in Marine Science from IPB University, Indonesia.
In the 1990s, Tries co-founded the Indonesian Coral Reef Foundation to raise awareness about coral reef conservation and management in Indonesia. In 2021, she received the prestigious Pew Fellowship in Marine Conservation for her research on improving the state of knowledge of coral reef restoration in Indonesia. Additionally, she was honored with the 2023 ASEAN Research Fellowship for her work on the impact of urbanization on coral reef ecosystems. Tries is the recipient of the 2024 World Reef Award from the International Coral Reef Society.
