Trevor Swerdfager

I graduated from the U of Waterloo Environmental Studies program in 1998 and the Masters of Arts, Geography- Resource Management program at U of Ottawa in 1988. I had a 30-year career in the federal Public Service in progressively more senior roles in Environment Canada (as it was then known), Fisheries and Oceans and Parks Canada. I held senior executive roles at the Director General - Assistant Deputy Minister level for over 20 years and worked across Canada and internationally in a wide range of sustainability fields. I joined the Faculty of Env at UW in 2020 in role designed to bring this practical experience to bear in teaching, writing and researching. My current interests lie in the areas of biodiversity conservation governance, oceans sustainability, government policy machinery, the role of gender and race in environmental issues and environmental law.
