Trevor Norris is Associate Professor of Philosophy of Education in the Department of Educational Studies at Brock University.
He is author, editor, or coauthor of several books including “Consuming Schools: Commercialism and the End of Politics” (UTP 2011), an undergraduate textbook which engages key philosophical questions and major debates in Canadian education titled “Questioning the Classroom: Perspectives on Canadian Education” (OUP, 2015), and “Democracy in Crisis: Promise or Peril” (2016). He is editor-in-chief of Brock Education: A Journal of Educational Research and Practice.
His research focuses on the intersection of education, politics and philosophy, with a particular focus on the democratic function of education. Building on critical educational theory he analyzes the impact of neoliberalism in educational policy and practice. He holds a SSHRC Insight Grant titled “Democracy, Education and the Public Good”. His work is translated into several languages including Japanese, French, Polish, Farsi, Spanish, and Turkish.
Dr. Norris earned is Ph.D. from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto.
