Tony Syme is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at Salford Business School, University of Salford. His research uses game theory and behavioural economics to study strategic deception: how people form beliefs and make group decisions when some of those around them have every reason to lie. He uses classroom experiments and the voting records of the television series The Traitors as natural laboratories, and his study of belief updating in a classroom version of the game is published in the International Review of Economics Education.

He has over 25 years' teaching experience across the Universities of Warwick, Oxford and Salford, in undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education, and leads the game theory module in Salford's economics programmes. He holds a PhD in Economics from Warwick and is a Certified Management and Business Educator with the Chartered Association of Business Schools.
