Tomoya Shibayama

Dr. Tomoya Shibayama is a Professor Emeritus of Coastal Engineering at Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan. He is renown leaders in tsunami and storm surge disaster mitigation research in Japan. He uses hydraulic laboratory experiments, field surveys and numerical simulations to investigate tsunami effects on infrastructure and coastal communities. He served as team leader of survey teams for all major tsunami and storm surge events which occurred during the last decade. After the 2011 Tohoku tsunami, he established at Waseda University the Composed Crisis Research Institute and was appointed as its Director.
