- Teaching Fellow, University of Birmingham
I am a social scientist, educational researcher and former school teacher.
I am a Research Manager at The Centre for the Use of Research and Evidence in Education (CUREE) and a Teaching Fellow at the University of Birmingham where I teach on the MA School Improvement and Educational Leadership programme. Prior to becoming a researcher, I completed a BSc and MSc in Economics, a PGCE (Business Education) and was a school teacher for five years.
My main research interest is the validity, interpretation and use of measures, data and evidence in the English education system. This includes examining key measures used in education policy; understanding school improvement and school effectiveness evidence; and understanding how teachers, parents and school leaders do and should use measures, data and evidence. My PhD thesis was on the Validity, Interpretation and Use of School Value-Added Measures.
I spend most of my time applying my expertise in research methods and design, teaching, and school effectiveness to research, evaluation and school improvement projects at CUREE.
