Dr Tim O'Shannassy is a Senior Lecturer at RMIT University in the Department of Business Administration, School of Management. Tim has served three terms in MBA Program Director roles in his 26-year tenure at RMIT. His qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce and Postgraduate Diploma in Economics from University of Melbourne. Tim then completed MBA and PhD degrees at Monash University. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management.
Tim is managing author of the book Strategic Management: The Challenge of Creating Value (Routledge Publishing). He served as Associate Editor for Journal of Management & Organization from 2012 to 2024 and serves on the Editorial Board of Australian Journal of Management, and Journal of Strategy and Management. In 2018 Tim won the Associate Editor Excellence Award from Journal of Management & Organization and Cambridge University Press. His research and consulting interests are strategy, strategy process, strategic marketing and corporate governance. Tim has published six refereed book chapters, four refereed journal editorials, 23 refereed journal articles and has 25 conference papers published in proceedings for conferences including British Academy of Management, Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management, and Australian and New Zealand Marketing Academy. Tim has presented two refereed conference papers at Academy of Management and nine refereed conference papers at Strategic Management Society. His work appears in Journal of Business Research, Frontiers in Public Policy, Journal of Strategic Marketing, Journal of Management & Organization, Journal of Strategy and Management, Research in Ethical Issues in Organisations and Singapore Management Review - with strong impact scores on Google Scholar (H-Index 14, 1070 citations) and Scopus (H-Index 7, 158 citations).
Tim coordinates and teaches strategy courses in RMIT University (RMIT) MBA programs. Tim has served on RMIT Academic Board from 2015 to 2017 and from 2020 to the present. Tim started the teaching of Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation in the RMIT MBA programs in 2000. He has directed and delivered custom Executive MBA Programs for Ford Motor Company and Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, and has consulted to stock exchange listed companies including Melbourne IT Limited and Compumedics Limited.
Tim contributes to the community and sport through his role as President of Dendy Park Tennis Club from 2011 to the present and has worked with Tennis Australia and Royal South Yarra Lawn Tennis Club to prepare a $2.5 million re-development package. He regularly organises Cancer Council of Victoria Charity Tennis Days at the Club. Tim has represented Dendy Park Tennis Club in Tennis Victoria Grade 1 pennant and Bayside Regional Section 1 pennant, and is a veteran of 31 Tennis Victoria pennant tennis seasons. He was made a Life Member of Dendy Park Tennis Club in 2020. Tim is a Life Member of the De La Salle College Malvern Old Collegians Association and was the 1982 Captain of Tennis. Tim's interest in sport and sports management extends to being a member of Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club and the Melbourne Cricket Club.
