Tim Komarek is an applied economist that focuses on urban, rural and regional economics with appointments in the Department of Economics and the Office of Engagement and Extension. He is the co-director of the Regional Economic Development Institute, an engaged research enterprise that aims to understand, analyze and inform economic development strategies. Research interests include the local effects of fiscal austerity, the intersection of the environment and economic development, place-based policies and local public finance. Tim's academic research has appeared in the Journal of Urban Economics, National Tax Journal, Regional Science and Urban Economics, among other outlets. It has spanned topics ranging from the local effects of fiscal austerity to place-based policies and regional entrepreneurship.
