I am Lecturer in China and Sustainable Development at King's College London. I am an anthropologist by training and my research examines the social, economic, and ecological transformations of China's borderlands and neighbours.

My first book China's Camel Country: Livestock and Nation-Building at a Pastoral Frontier (University of Washington Press 2024) examines local responses to China's state-led environmentalism on the grasslands of Inner Mongolia.

In my current research I study emerging forms of interaction across the Sino-Mongolian border. I am Co-Investigator on the UKRI-funded research project 'Trading Mongolia's Sovereign Meat'.
