Thomas J. Holt is a professor in the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University whose research focuses on computer hacking, malware, and the role of the Internet in facilitating all manner of crime and deviance. Dr. Holt is also the Director for the Center for Cybercrime Investigation and Training at MSU. His work has been published in various journals including British Journal of Criminology, Crime and Delinquency, Criminology & Public Policy, Deviant Behavior, the Journal of Criminal Justice, and Terrorism & Political Violence. Dr. Holt has also received research grants to study cybercrime, terrorism, and policy responses to these issues from a range of funding bodies including the Australian Research Council, the US Department of Education, the Department of Homeland Security, the National Institute of Justice, and the National Science Foundation. He is also a fellow in the cybercrime cluster at the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law.
