- Associate Professor, Social & Political Sciences, University of Technology Sydney
I am interested in ideas and how they get made – both in the past and the present. My work focuses on the global politics of knowledge in the 19th and 20th centuries. I am the author of "Empire of Scholars: Universities, Networks and the British Academic World, 1850-1939" (Manchester, 2013) and the co-editor of "The Transnational Politics of Higher Education" (Routledge, 2016). My current research project follows the world-cruise of the 1926 Floating University in order to examine questions of empire, authority and internationalism in the twentieth century.
I am Associate Professor in Social & Political Sciences at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). I received my DPhil from the University of Oxford where I studied as a Rhodes Scholar, and then held a Junior Research Fellowship at New College, and lectureship in Modern History at Corpus Christi College. Prior to coming to UTS I was ARC DECRA Fellow at the University of Sydney and Lecturer in Imperial and Colonial History at Brunel University, London. I host the History Lab podcast and The New Social Contract podcast.
