Dr Takao Maruyama joined the School of Management in 2019 and is currently an Assistant Professor in Business Analytics and Director of Postgraduate Studies. Prior to academia, he spent more than ten years as a Research & Data Analyst in the Higher and Further Education sector, working with universities, multinational organisations, media outlets, and UK Government departments to analyse complex datasets and communicate insights to senior stakeholders.
Takao is committed to enhancing student employability and industry engagement. He has built strong links between students, alumni and employers through career forums, industry visits and guest speakers. His teaching combines practical, real-world applications with an accessible approach to data analytics, helping students from diverse backgrounds develop the skills and confidence to make evidence-based business decisions.
In his research, Takao, as a Quantitative Social Scientist, has focused on issues on social inclusion among underrepresented groups such as D/deaf individuals, BAME communities, and women in STEM. Lately, he has been investigating the well‑being and job satisfaction of senior workers, with the aim to inform organisational and governmental policies that support intersectional groups of senior workers in achieving meaningful and sustained employment in an ageing society.
