Dr Syed Abdul Ahad is a Research Ireland Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Limerick, working on next-generation energy storage materials and battery chemistries. His research focuses on silicon- and germanium-based nanomaterials, alloying anodes, sodium-ion batteries, lithium-ion batteries and metal-anode systems, with a particular interest in translating fundamental materials chemistry into practical full-cell battery designs.

He joined the University of Limerick in 2019 as a PhD researcher in the Department of Chemical Sciences, where he developed nanowire-based materials for advanced battery applications. Since completing his PhD in March 2023, he has continued as a postdoctoral researcher, leading work on dual-cation and beyond-lithium battery systems. In 2024, he was awarded a prestigious Research Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship.

Before moving to Ireland, Syed worked as a researcher at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology in South Korea, investigating high-performance lithium–sulfur batteries in both half-cell and full-cell configurations. He holds a Master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from KAIST, South Korea, and a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering from Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute, Pakistan.
