My research interest is leadership and my research is principally qualitative in nature and informed by discourse analytic methods. My studies examine issues pertaining to leadership discourse, communication and decision-making, leadership practice/s, leadership ethics, crisis leadership, leadership development, issues of gender, power, context and identity in relation to leadership and issues of followership.

My PhD won 2 international prizes (Academy of Management Best Thesis, Critical Management Studies Division, 2014; Jablin Dissertation Award, International Leadership Association, 2014). I am a Board member of the International Leadership Association and Associate Editor at the Sage journal Leadership. I am the recipient of a Marsden Fund award.

Prior to completing my PhD I held senior roles in the public and state owned sectors, such as General Manager, HR, New Zealand Post and Deputy Commissioner, People Capability, State Services Commission and I continue to work as an executive coach.

I teach leadership, teamwork, DEI and other people related topics.
