I'm a professor of International History at the University of Warwick, where I've worked since 2017. I've previously taught at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and Rutgers University-Newark, and have held fellowships at Harvard, Princeton and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. My research focuses on the history of war and its complex aftermaths. I'm the author of six books, including The Good Occupation: American Soldiers and the Hazards of Peace (Harvard University Press, 2016); Dear John: Love and Loyalty in Wartime America (Cambridge University Press, 2022), and Making Do: Britons and the Refashioning of the Postwar World (Cambridge University Press, 2025).
