I am a writer and sociologist of money and migration. I chair a global IEEE activity to harness AI to better prevent, address and heal family violence, focused on vulnerable communities.

I have researched domestic economic abuse among the Anglo-Celtic and Indian communities in Australia. Gender is a continuing motif in my research on globalization and money, the sociology of money and banking, the sociology of migration and remittances, and the user-centred design of information and communication technologies.
My latest book is 'Domestic Economic Abuse: The Violence of Money' (2021:Routledge). My other recent books are 'Money, Migration and Family: India to Australia' (2016: Palgrave Macmillan). 'Globalization and Money: A Global South Perspective (2013: Rowman & Littlefield), and 'The Girls Ate Last' (2013: Angsana Publications).
I am an Adjunct Professor, Department of Social Inquiry, La Trobe University. I am also a founding member of the Multicultural Women’s Alliance Against Family Violence.
