Sue has a multidisciplinary background, with a BSc (Hons) First Class degree in Computational Linguistics from UMIST in 1997, an MA (with Distinction) in Language Acquisition from Essex University in 1998 and a PhD in Cognitive Psychology from Kent in 2004.
She conducts research to understand the psychosocial barriers and facilitators to immunisation (HPV, COVID, seasonal influenza and varicella) and cancer screening uptake (especially cervical screening and HPV self-sampling), working closely with stakeholders to deliver rigorous research with demonstrable policy impact. Her current NIHR funded project concerns physical disability and cervical screening.
