- Professor, La Trobe University
Professor Stephen Teo is a visiting professor at the Honours College, UEH University in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. He was previously the Head of the Department Management and Marketing in La Trobe Business School. Prior to returning home to Australia to take up his current position, he was the head of the Leadership and HRM department at Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom. Prior to that, he was a professor of work and performance and Vice Chancellor's professorial research fellow in the School of Business and Law, Edith Cowan University. Professor Teo has previously worked in higher education institutions in Australia and New Zealand in various faculty-based academic leadership roles. He has lectured in Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia and Thailand. While employed at the Auckland University of Technology Business School, Professor Teo was recognised under the New Zealand Government's research performance-based evaluation as one of the leading scholars in New Zealand, as shown by the outcome of the 2012 New Zealand PBRF round (ranked in the top 6% of New Zealand business researchers (Ranked A – world class). At La Trobe University, Stephen is a core member of the Care Workforce Domain of Care Economy Research Institute (CERI), one of two research institutes in the University.
Professor Teo has published in top tier journals such as Human Resource Management (USA), Human Resource Management Journal, Journal of Vocational Behaviour, the International Journal of Human Resource Management, Asia Pacific Journal of Management, Public Management Review, Work & Stress, International Small Business Journal, Journal of Small Business Management, International Journal of Hospitality Management, and Tourism Management. He has also published in the Journal of Advanced Nursing, Journal of Nursing Management, and Journal of Clinical Nursing, all Q1 journals in Nursing. His most recent projects examined the impact of organisational mistreatment on the well-being and performance of public sector employees in Australia, New Zealand, UK, USA and Vietnam. In particular, Professor Teo is interested in understanding the what and how the prevalence of workplace mistreatment (such as bullying, incivility, and social undermining) and how they impact on the work, well-being and happiness of employees. He currently serves as an associate editor for Public Management Review and the Canadian Journal of Administrative Sciences.
