Stephen was awarded a PhD in Playwrighting from archive in 2021 and is an Academic Fellow at the University of Salford leading classes on playwriting, scriptwriting, practice as research and directing. He is under commission to Routledge for a full-length book "Writing from Archives for Stage & Screen", due late 2026. He also has a MA in Playwrighting (Salford), a MA in Social Work (UEA, Norwich) and a MSt in Criminology (Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge). He runs Inkbrew Productions and is National Playwright in Residence for LGBT History Month.
