- Associate Professor, School of Communication, Queensland University of Technology
Stephen Harrington is an Associate Professor in the School of Communication, and a Chief Investigator in the Digital Media Research Centre (DMRC), at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).
For nearly two decades he has been examining the changing relationships between journalism, politics and popular culture, focussing in particular on the role of satire in the political process. He is the author of Australian TV News: New Forms, Functions, and Futures, that looked specifically at how television entertainment is providing audiences with new ways of consuming news, which therefore has significant implications for journalism practice and education.
He is currently leading an ARC-funded Discovery Project "Understanding and Combatting 'Dark Political Communication'", which is examining the increasingly sophisticated (and often covert) techniques used by political actors to shape and manage public opinion.
