- Scientist, Women's Age Lab, Women's College Hospital - Assistant Professor, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto
As an Early Career Scientist in the Women's Age Lab at Women's College Hospital and Assistant Professor (Status) in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto, Dr. Stephanie Hatzifilalithis is a social and critical gerontologist whose research is dedicated to improving the health, well-being, and quality of life of older adults by addressing the social and environmental determinants of healthy aging. Her community-engaged, equity-focused research examines how factors such as housing, the built environment, social support, climate change, and ageism shape aging experiences, with a particular focus on older women and other structurally marginalized populations. Using innovative qualitative and arts-based methods, she develops and evaluates sustainable, community-based solutions that support aging in the communities of people's choosing while reducing pressures on the healthcare system. Through her leadership in establishing a national collaborative on climate change and aging, Dr. Hatzifilalithis is building partnerships that translate research into policy and practice, advancing more equitable, resilient, and age-friendly systems that enable all Canadians to age with dignity.
