- Associate professor, The University of Melbourne
Stanislav Roudavski is the founder of the Deep Design Lab, a research-led creative collective, and an associate professor in digital architecture at the University of Melbourne. He is a principal investigator on the European Research Council Synergy project “Planetary Eel” that runs from 2026 to 2033. Stanislav’s research brings together ecology, technology, and ethics to imagine alternative futures for multispecies coexistence. He works with creative computing, digital sensing, and computer aided manufacturing to develop projects that explore vegetal leadership, multispecies urbanism, and the life cycle design of prosthetic tree hollows. His scholarly output includes more than 150 works: journal articles, book chapters, creative installations, and functional animal homes. His work has been presented at leading venues including SIGGRAPH, the Venice Architecture Biennale, FutureEverything, and Tate Modern, earning multiple awards. Stanislav holds degrees from the Academy of Arts in St Petersburg and the University of Strathclyde, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge. Before joining the University of Melbourne, he worked at the University of Cambridge, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and practised architecture across Europe. He contributes to editorial boards and international committees that support thriving, just communities where humans, plants, animals, and microorganisms can live well together.
