I hold the position of Postdoctoral Fellow within the Faculty of Humanities and the Office of the Vice-Provost (Teaching and Learning). I've designed and taught courses at both American and Canadian universities. I've taught College Writing I and College Writing II: Argumentation and Research at Buffalo State University of New York; ENG 101: Writing About Literature at Canisius College; and ENGLISH 2RW6: Reading and Writing Criticism, ENGLISH 4ST3: The Early Gothic, ENGL 1F03: The Written World ("Latin American and Latinx Literatures), ABLD 3CD3: Topics in the Black Caribbean and its Diasporas, LATAM 2A03: Introduction to Latin American and Latinx Studies, and LATAM 3A03: Critical Contemporary Issues in Latin American and Latinx Studies at McMaster University. I'm also co-founder of the Latin American Network at McMaster University (LANMU) and play an active role in several university committees. I am Black Lead for the Interdisciplinary Minor in Latin American and Latinx Studies (LALS) within the Interdisciplinary Minors Committee. Additionally, I co-lead the Latin American and Latinx Literature Book Club, where students, faculty, and staff engage in literary discussions.
As an interdisciplinary humanist, my scholarship is rooted in Black Studies, Latin American and Latinx Studies, Caribbean Studies, Long Eighteenth Century Literature(s), Pedagogy, and Linguistics. Originally from the Dominican Republic, my academic trajectory includes a Bachelor of Science in Pedagogy with Minors in ESL, Linguistics, and Writing, a Master of Arts in English, and a Ph.D. in English and Cultural Studies. My work has been featured in publications such as International Research in Children’s Literature (2019), The Keats-Shelley Association of America (2021), The Conversation (2022), and the anthology Caribbean Children’s Literature (2023). I also have upcoming work set to be featured in collections published by Romanticism on the Net and Routledge.
