Sophie Braznell

I am a Research Associate (coordination) in the Tobacco Control Research Group, part of the Centre for 21st Century Public Health at the University of Bath, UK.
My research focuses on heated tobacco products (HTPs) and tobacco industry science. Recent studies have included in-depth reviews of the clinical evidence on HTPs and exposing industry tactics to manipulate science for profit via analysis of leaked documents.
Foundational to my research interests are my previous education in human biology and forensic science, as well as experience in Health and Social Care. My PhD centred on tobacco industry approaches to harm reduction science and whether these approaches help or hinder public health.
I am passionate about the communication of science and enjoy working with media to reach diverse audiences beyond academia. I believe this is vital in ensuring research leads to positive, real-world impacts, which in this field can often be life-saving.
