Dr. Soniya Rijal explores how communities and organizations, including NGOs, businesses, and government agencies, coordinate to address societal and environmental issues amid persistent constraints. Her research draws on paradox theory, sensemaking, and world society theory, covering topics such as disasters, conservation, public health, and microfinance in Australia and Nepal. Currently, she investigates how organizations and communities organize during recurring extreme events. She also examines human-wildlife conflict in Nepal’s Terai region as an extreme context, focusing on how communities and frontline workers in national parks balance human safety with wildlife protection amid global environmental pressures. Her earlier research on microfinance in Nepal shapes her broader interest in how solutions adopted to address societal and environmental issues results in varying outcomes.
