Sonia Allan has qualifications in health and law, including an LLB (Hons), BA(Psych)(Hons), LLM(Global Health Law)(Dist), MPH (Merit) and a Ph.D. in law. Sonia has worked in the public and private health and legal sectors, in law reform, as a consultant, and has been a health law academic for more than 16 years, focusing on the regulation of health and emerging technologies, public and global health law. Sonia was a Global Health Law fellow at Georgetown University, Washington D.C. from 2011-2012, where she received the Cali Award for Health and Human Rights. She is also an alumni of Sydney University and Melbourne University. Sonia served as Deputy Chair for a large Human Research Ethics Committee (Clinical Medicine) 2014-2015, and as Head of Department of Health Systems and Populations at Macquarie University in 2015-2016. Sonia currently runs her own consulting business, has extensive advocacy experience, engages in public consultation, and has been hired to advise government, the private sector, and not-for-profit organizations. She has ongoing associations with a number of Universities, and the NSW Law Extension Committee. In 2019 she received the Medal of the Order of Australia for her contribution to tertiary education and the law.
