Dr Lim is a Reader (Professor) in Asia Pacific Studies here with her expertise in international aid policy and practice. She works as Co-Director of the International Institute of Korean Studies at the University of Lancashire (IKSU) and is co-Editor of the Routledge Research on Korea series as well as is Editor-in-Chief of the Asia Pacific Viewpoint Journal (Wiley). Dr Lim's teaching and research interests include sustainable development and resilient societies, climate change and environmental governance, period poverty and the rights of women and girls, civil society development, digital literacy and democracy, and the political economy of North and South Korea. She welcomes enquiries from prospective PhD students interested in these areas.
She has published policy papers, journal articles, book chapters, and books on issues mostly focussed on official development assistance (ODA), and sustainable development. Her recent research examines period poverty and the rights of women and girls in North Korea, Palestine, Fiji, the Solomon Islands, Nepal, and Myanmar. Sojin has been invited to various media interviews domestically and internationally, such as appearing on BBC. Prior to joining the University of Lancashire, Dr Lim worked in international development with organisations including the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), specialising in grant aid/ODA, and the Export-Import Bank of Korea, focusing on concessional/loan aid/ODA, as a senior research fellow. She also contributed to various projects with international organisations, such as UN, ILO, OECD, WB and ADB.
