- Associate Research Fellow in Mineral Processing, Deakin University
Sirjana holds a Bachelor and Master of Science in Environmental Science. She is a researcher with Master of research in Environmental engineering and a current PhD Scholar. She has studied in Nepal and Australia.
She worked on evaluating the nutrient profile of lake-bed sediments in Nepal. She has been researching the nutrient availability in sewage sludge derived biochar since 2017. Since then, she is committed to contribute to the biochar community with her knowledge and expertise in soil-biochar interaction, biochar nutrients, biochar for treatment of water pollutants. She has already published eight peer reviewed research articles in high impact factor journals.
Her proposed area of biochar study for 2020-2024 are optimisation of local Australian biochar for use in agriculture and soil carbon sequestration specifically in Australian soil types focusing circular economy and comprehensive life cycle assessment of biochar products.
She will be working in close collaboration with Victorian biochar producing organisations and organic waste collection centre for her research. Her research will help in adding up to current knowledge about the benefits and limitations of optimised biochar to improve soil health and productivity by enhancing the storage of water, nutrient, and soil carbon and to boost long term sustainability. Her findings about optimisation will guide biochar community in Australia to optimise their biochar during production and use for high efficiency and maximum benefits.
