Siphelele Ngidi

(He /Him )

Siphelele Ngidi is an Associate Researcher at the Southern Centre for Inequality Studies and a PhD candidate in Economics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. His research lies at the intersection of labour and health economics, with a focus on how unemployment, job quality, and labour market dynamics shape well-being among prime-age individuals in South Africa.

His work also extends to the informal economy, where he examines the lived experiences of informal traders, focusing on governance, infrastructure, permits, and economic inclusion. Using a combination of quantitative panel data analysis and qualitative fieldwork, Siphelele’s research contributes to policy debates on inequality, labour market functioning, and inclusive economic development in South Africa.
