Simon has a PhD in Biochemistry and worked in drug discovery before turning his academic and research interests into ethics, governance and integrity. He chairs research ethics committees for the UK's NHS, Ministry of Defence, and UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), and is a member of the specialist Human Challenge ethics committee and Public Health Research Ethics Committee. He runs training sessions in all aspects of research ethics for the UK Research Integrity Office (UKRIO).
