Shirin Khayambashi

Shirin Khayambashi (she/her) is an assistant professor in the department of sociology at Toronto Metropolitan University. Dr. Khayambashi is a qualitative researcher specializing in immigration studies and identity development post-migration through an intersectional perspective. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology from McMaster University, exploring the in-group contestation of Iranian communities. Her publication generally explores qualitative research methods, as well as challenges of settlement and restructuring of social identity post-migration among Iranian and Muslim communities. Dr. Khayamashi is a primary investigator on several research projects. Her recent research explores the challenges of settlement and integration post-migration. One of her most important research areas addresses the opportunities and challenges of settlement in small Canadian cities with a focus on Brandon, MB’s international patterns of migration. Additionally, she explores the experience of Iranian lesbian/sapphic community members and their identity construction as they experience an intersectional minority status. Also, as an immigration scholar, she was selected to be the Cacus co-convener for the Sociology of Migration cluster at the Canadian Sociology Association.
