Sharon Stein is an Associate Professor and Professor of Climate Complexity and Coloniality in the Department of Educational Studies at the University of British Columbia. Her work examines how institutions, knowledge systems, social imaginaries, and emerging technologies — including AI — are shaped by colonial legacies and contemporary conditions of inequity, unsustainability, and instability. Her current research asks what forms of continuity AI is being asked to preserve, and how communities are reorienting or refusing it on their own terms. She founded the Critical Internationalization Studies Network and co-founded the Gesturing Towards Decolonial Futures Collective.
