The genius TikTok account for the Paralympics draws on the comedic beauty of disabled bodies. It is a relief to see a promotion of the Paralympics that avoids the usual stereotypes.
The absurd humour which the film is being lauded for is often at Bella’s ‘primitive’, ‘monstrous’ or ‘damaged’ actions: words which have been used to describe disabled people throughout history.
In The Dreamer, Chapelle laughs at disability, bisexuality and gay men. But his jokes continue to come back to one target: the transgender community.
