Shaker Ahmed

Dr Shaker Ahmed is a Lecturer in Finance at the University of Surrey, UK. He received his PhD in Finance from the University of Vaasa, Finland, and held visiting scholar positions at the Skema Business School in France and the Hanken School of Economics in Finland. He also taught at Umeå University, Sweden, as a guest lecturer.

His research primarily focuses on the influence of executive characteristics, corporate strategic decisions and political risk on firm outcomes. He has published articles in peer-reviewed academic journals such as the British Journal of Management, European Financial Management, Economic Letters, Journal of Economics and Business and Finance Research Letters.

Shaker’s work has been featured in international media outlets, including the Financial Times (UK), the Wall Street Journal (USA), the Daily Mail (UK), the Harvard Business Manager (the German edition of the Harvard Business Review), Forskning.no (Norway), Postimees (Estonia), Valor Econômico (Brazil), Milenio (Mexico), and Finnish media outlets including Yle, Helsingin Sanomat, Kauppalehti, Talouselämä, Svenska Yle, Ilta-Sanomat, and MTV Oy.

For his doctoral research, he has received a total of €127,000 in research grants from three foundations in Finland: OP Group Research Foundation, Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation and Saving Banks Research Foundation.
