Shahzad Uddin is a Professor of Accounting and the Director of the Centre for Accountability and Global Development at Essex Business School in the UK.
He received a major national award in 2022 from the British Accounting and Finance Association for his important contributions to research and academic life in the UK. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, an honour given to people who have made a strong, positive impact in the social sciences.
Shahzad has written more than 100 academic papers in subjects such as accounting, sociology, development studies, public administration, and philosophy. His work mainly focuses on how organisations and governments can be more responsible, fair, and transparent.
He studies real-life issues in many parts of the world, including Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. He has researched countries such as Bangladesh, Japan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, China, Ghana, and Uganda.
Shahzad is also a regular commentator on social, political, and development issues in non-Western countries, especially Bangladesh and Palestine.
