Seth M. Holmes, PhD, MD, is Chancellor's Professor (2023-2026) in Society and Environment and Medical Anthropology as well as Founder and Co-Chair of the Berkeley Center for Social Medicine at the University of California, Berkeley, and ICREA Researcher and Founding Director of the Hub for Global Social Medicine at the University of Barcelona. A sociocultural and medical anthropologist and physician, he works on social hierarchies, health inequities, and the ways in which such asymmetries are naturalized, normalized, and resisted in the context of transnational im/migration, agro-food systems, and health care. He is PI of the European Research Council Project, FOODCIRCUITS: Hidden Connections Between Migrants and Societies. He has received national and international awards from the fields of anthropology, sociology, and geography, including the Margaret Mead Award. In addition to scholarly publications, he has written for popular media such as The Guardian, El Pais, The Hill, The Huffington Post and Salon.com and spoken on NPR, PRI, Pacifica Radio and Radio Bilingüe radio programs. He is also 2026 President's Faculty Fellow in the UCDC Washington Center (https://ucdcevents.my.canva.site/pffp).
