Sean Seeger is Head of the School of Language, Literature, and Media at the University of Essex, where he is also Senior Lecturer in Modern and Contemporary Literature.
Sean has published widely on literature, film, and cultural theory. His main areas of interest are twentieth- and twenty-first-century literature; modernism; speculative fiction; utopian studies; and queer studies.
As well as many journal articles and essays, Sean is the author of two books. The first of these, Nonlinear Temporality in Joyce and Walcott: History Repeating Itself with a Difference (2017), explores the role of time in James Joyce and Derek Walcott, and was the first comparative study of their work.
His second book, Utopian Variations: Utopia in Literature, Film, and Popular Culture (2025), which is available via open access, considers forms of utopia and utopianism that have received less attention within utopian studies. A sequel, Dystopian Variations, is currently underway.
