- Senior Lecturer in Evolutionary Biology, UNSW
I have a PhD in Biology and have held 2 postdoc positions since 2009.
My research is on the mechanisms that induce plasticity in biological materials, structures and phenotypic traits. My research bridges the gaps between biology and materials science. I use spider orb-webs and silks as biological models as they are extended phenotypes that are variable at genome, proteome and phenome levels. I use cross-disciplinary techniques, incorporating physics, chemistry and fiber science, to investigate the different variables that act on on silk properties.
