Dr Silvestri researches the multifaceted relevance of faith in contemporary global politics. She specialises in European public policies about religion and faith based socio-political mobilization with particular attention to Islam and Christianity. She has published on and has been involved in multiple initiatives on religion and diplomacy, migration, and on counterterrorism and has collaborated extensively with the policy and media sectors in her areas of expertise. He current project is on the Catholic Church and ecumenical movement contribution to the global governance of migration and asylum.

With a PhD from POLIS (University of Cambridge), Sara is Senior Lecturer in Global Politics (City St George's University of London), bye Fellow of St Edmund's College (University of Cambridge) and is a member of the Research Forum of the Cambridge Interfaith Programme.

Dr Silvestri has served as advisor and consultant to several institutions (European Policy Centre, British Council, Anna Lindh Foundation, European Commission, Caritas Internationalis, Home Office, DfID, Council of Europe, Vatican, etc). Currently she serves as Advisor to the interfaith consulting company Lead Integrity, to the Church of England on ethics, and as a trustee of the Council on Christian Approaches to Defense and Disarmament, having previously been a trustee of the Centre for Catholic Thought and Practice in the UK and Director of Research at the Von Huegel Institute in Cambridge.
