Dr Sara Niner is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher in the School of Social Sciences at Monash University. She spent many years working with the East Timorese diaspora in Australia, followed by many years consulting and researching in Timor-Leste, and is widely published in this field.

She published "Xanana: Leader of the Struggle for Independent Timor-Leste" in 2009 and "Women and the politics of gender in Post-Conflict Timor-Leste" in 2017. She teaches in the fields of Migration, Development Studies, Gender and Development and Anthropology.
