Sana Zakaria

I am a Research Leader, and a Global RAND Scholar working on cutting edge technologies and their intersection with one another. My work focusses on assessing the societal and biosecurity implications of technological advancement, and unpacking the factors affecting technology demand and supply. I also work on assessing oversight mechanisms for technology, their international variation and alignment and loopholes that could be exploited for harm. The focus of my work is building resilience and preparedness in society.

Some examples of my current work include developing a global risk index to manage dual use
risks from AI powered biological tools. I also sit on an expert scientific group to the Biological Weapons Convention to progress accountability mechanisms for member countries.
