Samuel Agbamu

(he/him)

I am an Associate Professor in Classics at the University of Reading where I teach Roman history, Latin, and themes relating to race and ethnicity in the ancient world. My first book, 'Restorations of Empire', which is about the way that modern Italian imperialism used ancient Roman imperialism for ideological purposes, came out in 2024 with Oxford University Press. I am currently finishing my second book, which is about the 'Africa', a fourteenth-century Latin epic poem written by Petrarch about the Second Punic War. Concurrently, I am working on my first trade book, called 'White Lie' which is about how classicism has been used to shape an exclusionary sense of a western identity.
