Dr Samson Mhizha is the chairperson of the Department of Applied Psychology at the University of Zimbabwe and the coordinator the newly established Child Development and Psychology program. He is currently a post-doctoral fellow with the Future Africa, Far-LeaF Programme at the University of Pretoria. He obtained his PhD and MPhil in Developmental Psychology, an MSc in Clinical Educational Psychology and BSc degrees in Psychology at the same institution. His research mainly focuses on resilience building, transdisciplinary and participatory research, family reunification and inclusive education among marginalised and disadvantaged children. Key aims in his research include building resilience, drug and substance demand reduction, building transdisciplinary teams, reducing climate vulnerabilities, strengthening families, improving enrolment and retention in schools, providing inclusive education opportunities and mainstreaming indigenous knowledge systems among children, youths and other disadvantaged populations. His research achievements at present include over 30 publications in peer reviewed journals and edited books including workshop presentations. Dr Samson Mhizha is involved in international collaborative researches with researchers from Sweden, England, Turkey, Uganda and Kenya. He is a member of the Zimbabwe Psychological Association (ZPA), American Psychological Association (APA), The International Society for the Study of Behavioural Development (ISSBD), Future Earth and a fellow with the US-Based Child Wellbeing and Research Network (CWRN).
