- Research Associate, School of Molecular Sciences, The University of Western Australia
Dr Sam Harvie is a Research Associate and Associate Lecturer in the School of Molecular Sciences and the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology at The University of Western Australia (UWA). Her research sits at the intersection of molecular biology, crop nitrogen science and applied agricultural research, with a focus on understanding how nitrogen management influences crop biology, plant protein composition and nitrogen-use efficiency in wheat and canola. Her work integrates molecular and field-based approaches to investigate how nitrogen management interacts with crop and environmental conditions, with the aim of developing practical insights to support more efficient, profitable and sustainable grain production.
Dr Harvie completed her PhD at UWA in 2025, supported by a Sir Eric Smart Scholarship for agricultural research and a Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) top-up scholarship. Since then, She has established a multi-stakeholder collaboration network spanning fertiliser companies, grower groups, research institutions and growers, and contributes to GRDC-funded wheat and canola nitrogen-use efficiency research. In teaching she is a unit coordinator for Collecting, Analysing and Interpreting Big Data in Biology. She also serves at the early-mid career researcher representative for the School of Molecular Sciences, the Future Agriculture discipline representative for the Australian Society of Plant Scientists, and a member of the Wheat Initiative Expert Working Group.
