- Senior Lecturer in International Studies, Deakin University
Dr Sam Balaton-Chrimes is a Senior Lecturer in International Studies at Deakin University. Sam’s work is oriented to redressing injustices and inequalities between different identity groups. Her current research projects aim to:
1) Identify and encourage constructive relations between privileged and disadvantaged groups in postcolonial societies. This research tells stories of how we can recognize and grapple with inequality, injustice and unequal power relations in ways that are not superficial. Check out my podcast Welcome?
2) Analyse the effects of categorizing and classifying people by ethnic identity in Kenya
3) Find better ways to govern research ethics in Australia, particularly research in the global South
Sam teaches in Undergraduate, Honours and Postgraduate programs, where she aims to work with her students to hone their skills in critical thinking, and expose them to people, places, ideas and theories that better equip them to grapple with pressing political problems of inequality, injustice and power in their future professions.
