- Lecturer in History, UCL
I am a historian of modern Britain, focusing on education, politics, society, oral history and the history of universities and students, and have written three monographs relating to these topics. My latest, co-authored with Georgina Brewis, is Student London: a New History of Higher Education in the Capital.
I have also written widely for peer-reviewed journals, local history publications, newspapers and websites on the broad topics of British and Welsh politics, grassroots activism and student protest.
I am a frequent contributor to the national and local media as a pundit on current affairs, and have appeared on the BBC News 24 channel, BBC News at 6, BBC Breakfast, Radio 4, and Radio 5 Live. I regularly speak at conferences and events and have done so at places including Cambridge and Harvard universities, and at the Hay Festival.
