Salum Mshamu is trained as a nurse, who went on and pursue a master’s degree in Public Health from Lund University, Sweden and a Postgraduate diploma in clinical trials from London school of hygiene and tropical medicine. Salum has special interest in housing and health, this came about after he participated in designing and implementation of a pilot housing project which was assessing affordable and acceptable house designs to improve health in hot and humid rural Africa. Salum can relate to the housing problems in rural areas of Tanzania and how it contributes to ill-health of households as he was born and raised in the villages. This project was the beginning of his journey to housing and health. He was a co-investigator and a field coordinator of a Star homes project (A field trial to assess the impact of novel design houses in prevention of diseases - malaria, respiratory tract infections and diarrhoea diseases). Salum is pursuing a PhD at University of Oxford, Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine on the same subject and at the same time serve as a Director of CSK research organization (A Tanzanian based research company).
