Dr. Salieu Sankoh is a marine scientist and development specialist with over 30 years of experience in academia, government, and international consultancy. He holds a PhD in Sustainable Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management from the University of Stirling, UK, along with an MSc and a BSc (Hons.) in Marine Sciences from the University of Sierra Leone. He has advanced training in environmental management, marine biodiversity, fisheries policy, climate change, and aquaculture.
Dr. Sankoh has made extensive contributions to fisheries and aquaculture development, marine environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate change adaptation across Sierra Leone and West Africa. He has served as a consultant for the World Bank, FAO, ECOWAS, and national agencies, providing expertise in fisheries policy, climate vulnerability assessments, marine spatial planning, oil spill risk analysis, and natural resources management. Between 2010 and 2023, he led major national and regional projects supported by international partners, and has delivered consultancy services in Liberia and across the subregion on aquaculture feasibility studies, investment strategies, and policy development.
In academia, Dr. Sankoh has lectured at Fourah Bay College since 2000 and serves as a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Marine Biology & Oceanography, teaching marine sciences and supervising research at multiple levels. He has authored more than 30 publications covering aquaculture, fisheries management, marine pollution, biodiversity, climate resilience, and coastal livelihoods.
He is a member of several professional bodies and has strong expertise in sustainable aquaculture, fisheries governance, environmental protection, climate adaptation, EIA, and capacity building. He is skilled in multiple analytical software packages and enjoys reading and photography.
