Sabine Matook

Dr Sabine Matook is a scientist at the UQ Business School, University of Queensland. She has the position of Professor in Information Systems. Dr Matook received her doctoral degree from the Technische Universität (TU) Dresden, Germany.

Sabine's scientific work focuses on the creation, adoption, and use, and consequences of effective use of data and IT artifacts in the two areas of information systems development (ISD) and social media. Within the context of ISD, she seeks to understand why and how the behaviors of teams and individuals dynamically shape the design and development of the IT artifact, including technology-mediated teams (including human-AI hybrids). Her interests also motivate the work on affordances and influences of social IT artifacts (e.g., social media) on and by users in the real and the virtual world.

Sabine Matook is an Associate Editor for MIS Quarterly (MISQ), a Senior Editor for the European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS), an Editorial Board member for Journal of Management Information Systems (JMIS), a former Senior Editor for the journal AIS Transactions on Replication Research (TRR), and has been a guest Associate Editor for the Information Systems Journal (ISJ).

She is the AIS Council Secretary for The Association for Information Systems (Sep 2021- 2026).

Sabine was also the program chair for the 2019, 2021 and 2022 European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS) and assumed the track chair role for ECIS in 2020, 2024-2026 and for Pacific-Asian Conference on Information Systems (PACIS) in 2020, 2024. In the past, Sabine has served repeatedly as track chair for the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) and the Australasian Conference on Information Systems (ACIS).

In 2019, Dr Matook was a member of the Expert Panel 'Information Systems' that reviewed the Australian Business Deans Council Journal Quality List.

She has held visiting positions at the University of Arizona (Eller College of Management), Georgia State University (J. Mack Robinson College of Business), University of Louisville, Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (Austria), and the University of La Serena, Chile.

Dr Matook's work has appeared in MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, the Journal of Strategic Information Systems, the International Journal of Operations & Production Management, Decision Support Systems, and the Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems. Over the years, Sabine Matook has presented numerous research papers at international conferences, including the ICIS, ECIS, and PACIS.
