Ryan Reisinger – The Conversation

Associate Professor in Marine Biology and Ecology, University of Southampton

I am an Associate Professor in marine biology and ecology at the School of Ocean and Earth Science, University of Southampton.

My work focuses on the ecology of marine predators.

I look at how the biophysical oceanographic environment influences the behavior and distribution of marine predators and how we can model and forecast these aspects of their ecology in our changing seascapes. I am beginning to explore the applied and broader implications of this work – how do we use this information about marine predators for conservation, management and to understand broader ecosystem pattern, process and status? To do this I use data from technologies including animal biologging and remote-sensing, which I analyze with modern, highly quantitative tools like machine learning.
